Here is an interview I did a while back with EROS…

Jewell Marceau is a director, model and actress who’s appeared in hundreds of video productions, working with many of the biggest names in the business. From her intense play in the Ivy Manor series from Gwen Media to her ravenous appetite for extreme bondage with House of Gord and her retro flip as a bondage top in Madison Young’s Bondage Boob Tube, Jewell has made herself a living legend of bondage.

We caught up with the very busy Jewell Marceau to have a chat about sex, bondage and the female form.

Eros Zine: Where did you grow up? Was your upbringing conservative? Was it difficult for you to make the move into being a professional bondage model and actress?

Jewell Marceau: I grew up in Va. Beach, VA. My upbringing was extremely conservative. The family I grew up with were all “Jesus Christ Super Stars”, I mean Christians, with the exception of my mother who was an angry, substance indulger. Of course this made it difficult to be anything besides a “Christian” really and that was the last thing I wanted be and church was the last place I wanted to go. When I was seven all I ever wanted to be was “sexy” and I told my mother I would be in Playboy Magazine. She laughed at me and and told me that would never happen and that if I ever was in Playboy that she would disown me. Since then I have been on the Playboy channel multiple times, although I have never been a Playboy feature model or centerfold and I guess I have managed to achieve my goal of being sexy. Pretty silly goal for a little girl. But it was important to me because my mother always told me I was pretty: “Pretty Ugly!” And I have never forgotten that how much that hurt me. She was mean!

Eros Zine: When you were younger, did you have any clue that you were into bondage or other kinky stuff? How did you discover your interests?

Jewell Marceau: When I was younger, I had no idea that bondage existed as a fantasy. I did not discover my private interests until I began actually doing bondage modeling. I was not a kinky minded child at all. I just wanted to dance on the coffee table with my socks on and be sexy.

Eros Zine: You’re known for working in particularly extreme and challenging bondage. How did your interest in this area develop — were you always interested in intense or extreme bondage, or did it develop as you learned more about it?

Jewell Marceau: My interests in extreme bondage developed as I continued to do bondage modeling and producers/riggers pushed my limits to see what exactly I could handle. Basically, I was willing to give any bondage position a try, so I then found out that I had a lot of stamina, I figured out how to pace my breathing in order to balance, and endure a tough position, lasting with enough air to breathe and not injuring myself therefore completing an amazing human feat, that most human bodies can’t do and then managing to last long enough to have it captured on tape and in photos: That was success to me! Producers would always ask me if I was OK and I never complained unless something was seriously wrong. I knew I wanted to be a bondage model because I knew even more that I did not want to do gang bangs or be a porn, cum shot receptacle. Although porn is very exciting, it was something I never wanted to do with my life. When I discovered I was very flexible, had great stamina, and balance and noticed how beautiful women looked in perfectly poised bondage positions (including myself), my interests for creating extreme bondage grew even stronger.

Eros Zine: Speaking of extreme bondage, you’ve worked with House of Gord. What’s the experience like of being trussed up in such intricate bondage machines?

Jewell Marceau: Working at the House of Gord is like riding Space Mountain at DisneyLand naked, but encased, gagged, and strapped down tight, with multiple orgasms! It’s good stuff! It’s unlike any other ride you’ll ever have in your life.

Eros Zine: I’ve only seen you in films where you’re the bondage bottom. Do you also switch, and if so what are your favorite films where you’ve performed as a dominant? How are the demands different of being a top vs. a bottom in a bondage focused film?

Jewell Marceau: Yes I will switch anytime there is a beautiful girl in bondage for me to play with. I certainly won’t walk away from topping that! One of my favorite movie titles on that page of me performing as a top with another beautiful girl would be “My Darling Maid.” It’s quite naughty! The demands in being a top professionally are different in that, you must be aware of time, space, the energy & limitations of the person you are administering play & punishment to, you have to know what your doing basically, and you have to know as to what degree you need to be doing what your doing to suit your submissive so that you do not go too far and ruin a scene. For me personally, the difference is when I am topping a male or female usually the entire time inside my mind I am wishing that what I am doing to my submissive were really happening to me. My little secret…..

Eros Zine: What are your favorite projects to work on? Are there particular interests you have that you haven’t had a chance to work on, that you’d like to?

Jewell Marceau: I love to work with Gwenmedia on the Ivy Manor series that was started about 7 or 8 years ago and is almost complete! The heavy rubber, encasement, and sensory deprivation is mind blowing and continues to challenge my own limits. I love being forced to orgasm by machines that hold me down and go really fast at the House of Gord. And Dominic Wolfe can duct tape me from head to toe naked anyday of the week. But my first love is rope bondage and always will be. I loved to be tied extremely tight in ropes, it’s my love affair. What I would like to work on, but have not had a chance to, are making my own personal fantasies come true. I’m so busy making everybody else’s fantasies come true that I never get to make my own happen. But at least I have plenty of new experiences (I hope) to look forward to.

Eros Zine: Do you find a big difference between working with a male vs. a female director in film projects?

Jewell Marceau: No not really, but I do find that things go really well when I am directing.

Eros Zine: You won the SIGNY Bondage Award Gold Laurel as Best Bondage Model in 2005 (you’d won the Silver in 2004). Are awards and recognition something that helps or affects what you do? Are you at all surprised to receive such accolades?

Jewell Marceau: You know, I think winning those awards means more to the fans of the winners, than it does to the winners. I guess some of the winners let themselves be affected by these accolades, but not myself and some of the other winners I have talked with in the years past. Yes, I am entirely surprised that I placed 3 years in a row in the Signy Awards actually, but I just can’t see exactly how these contests are really real and truly true. How can we all decide and truly measure a real winner, the “Best Bondage Model?” I doubt that I was ever really “the best” or “number one” bondage model, but if people want to tell me that it’s so and give me awards and credits for it I will ceratinly take them!

Eros Zine: I’ve seen you listed with “Scarlet Fever” as an alias, but have never encountered any of your work under this name. Is this an active alias, and/or is there an interesting story behind Scarlet?

Jewell Marceau: You have not encountered my work by this name probably because you have spelled it wrong. It is spelled Scarlett Fever with 2 “t’s”. This was the name I chose when I entered the G/G porn world when I was 20 years old and I was trying to think of a name slutty enough to match the other porn star names. Once I arrived at Harmony Concepts they asked me to change my name because it was a little too “slutty”. So I changed it because I did not expect I would be in the adult business for this long and I didn’t really care that much at that time what my name was.

Eros Zine: Many of the films you’ve been in have a bit of a retro feel, in that they evoke the mid-20th-century when some of the work was being done that would set the tone for fetishists for the rest of the century. Do you have a particular interest in vintage erotica and vintage styling? Is that something you seek out? If so, who are your favorite artists, photographers, designers, etc who worked in days of yore?

Jewell Marceau: I do love the classic vintage style, and anything and everything that is soft, feminine, and curvy and accentuates those attributes of the female form. I love Helmut Newton. Personally, I enjoy this style and I like different versions of mixing sex, nature, women, the environment, architecture, and clothing. Professionally, I seek out what the fans are requesting and buying which is not always what I envision personally. I’m not a man so I do need input from the boys. And they certainly give it to me, so thanks for the input boys!

Eros Zine: Have you had primarily good experiences with your fans? Or have there been negative experiences that make you shy away from some of them?

Jewell Marceau: I love my fans! They are all so awesome and they seem to really want me to be happy and succeed. My fans come to visit me live at my website http://www.JewellMarceau.com 2-4 times a month during my cam shows to keep me company while I masturbate and tie myself up! I do hate masturbating alone! My fans are gracious and so sweet and really complimentary. They are not the same sort of fans that I used to find when I did more G/G porn. My fans are the best!
